Immediate Dentures Q & A

What are immediate dentures?

Immediate dentures are partial or full dentures that Dr. Hansen inserts in your mouth following the removal of some or all your natural teeth.

Immediate partial dentures are best if you have some natural teeth that aren’t strong enough for dental bridges.

To replace the gaps in your mouth immediately, Dr. Hansen uses a partial denture. If you choose to have immediate full dentures, these replace all of your teeth on the upper or lower jaw, giving you a beautiful smile.

What are the benefits of immediate dentures?

There are multiple advantages to immediate dentures, such as:

  • Helping control the postop bleeding that results from extracting your teeth
  • Allowing you to establish your speech patterns faster
  • Not having to be in public without teeth
  • Not requiring a temporary denture
  • Helping improve your facial appearance

Another benefit of immediate dentures is that it’s easier for Dr. Hansen to duplicate the shape and arrangement of your natural teeth. This is due to him taking impressions for your dentures prior to the removal of your natural teeth.

What’s the difference between immediate dentures and regular dentures?

Immediate dentures are different than regular dentures because Dr. Hansen creates immediate dentures from an impression of your mouth before your dentist pulls your teeth. This allows sufficient time for your immediate dentures to be ready for fitting on the same day your dentist extracts your teeth.

What can I expect during the process of getting my immediate dentures?

The first step to getting immediate dentures is for the team at Hansen Denture Center to use your remaining natural teeth to create impressions of your mouth.

Dr. Hansen then refers you to a dentist to extract your natural teeth. Once that’s done, Dr. Hansen places your immediate dentures in your mouth. At this point, you’ll have a set of immediate dentures that act and function like natural teeth.

Once your immediate dentures are in your mouth, it’s important for you to visit Hansen Denture Center at least twice a year for maintenance, such as professional cleaning or relining.
